The Welsh Bac Pilot

The Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification is nationally approved and currently offered at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels. It began, however, as a pilot in 2003.

Students in 31 schools and colleges began the Welsh Bac pilot in September 2003. These schools and colleges had a year of preparation and planning during which they were supported by the Project Team. The first eighteen schools and colleges began delivering the Welsh Bac to students in September 2003 with a further six starting in September 2004. Another seven schools and colleges joined the pilot in September 2004, with a year of preparation before starting to deliver the Welsh Bac from September 2005.

The Foundation level is currently offered as part of a pilot scheme operating from 2006 - 9. Schools, colleges amd training providers from across Wales are involved.

This section provides a list of pilot centres, and in some cases, information about how they set about delivering the Bac in their centres. These centres are those with the most experience of this new qualification. We hope their experiences prove useful to you.
